Our Team
Around The Mountains Cycle Tours has been operating from Queenstown since 2010. The company has been 10 years in the making from Mike Barnett’s initial idea of a Southland Rail Trail to today. From one of NZ’s leading cycle tour companies has come a new dynamic trail outfitter, offering a full range of guided and self guided product.
Mike & Lyndley Barnett
Founders
The Around the Mountains Cycle Trail was conceived by Lynley Barnett while mountain biking from Mavora Lakes to Walter Peak in 2007, suggesting that this ride was so beautiful it should be made into a tourist product. Mike Barnett took up on the idea and developed the concept of an Around the Mountain cycle trail linking the small towns of Mossburn, Lumsden, Athol, Garston, Kingston, and Queenstown.
Mike Barnett is a tourist consultant and Lynley Barnett is an accountant, based in Queenstown.
Lynley & Mike have recreation interests in walking/tramping, road cycling and mountain biking and have commercial interests on the Otago Central Rail Trail, Lake Dunstan Trail, Clutha Trails and Around the Mountains Cycle Trail.
John Knight
Founder
John Knight and his family have been around Queenstown for a long time. In 1995 he established Outside Sports, now the biggest outdoor sporting retailers in the Southern Lakes area plus an extensive ecommerce shop at www.outsidesports.co.nz.
He also co-founded Climbing Queenstown which offers rock climbing, via ferrata, alpine mountaineering, alpine trekking and more. He is also a director of Trail Journeys LTD, the main itinerary operator on the Otago Central Rail Trail and of Kayak Adventures Queenstown. He is also a director of Around The Basin LTD, a company set up in 2012 to offer supported and guided cycle trips on all the trails of the Wakatipu Basin around Queenstown.
Our Queenstown Team
From our Queenstown base we deliver a full service booking function with bike hire, luggage transfer, accommodation booking service and a full trail shuttle to get you to the start and finish of any part of the trail. Our office and depot staff will meet you on the day and provide detailed information on the best the trail will offer.
